We typically use Google Meet for our online education sessions. If you are setting up your device, we've experienced these problems before so we've identified these solutions (please give us a heads up if you experience a different problem or the solution doesn't work anymore).

### Bypassing "Organization's Safety Settings" Errors
If you click the meeting link and sees a message stating you are not allowed to join due to your organization's safety settings, this likely means they are currently logged into a school-issued Google account. Schools heavily restrict these accounts to prevent students from joining outside meetings.
To resolve this and join the session, please use one of the following methods:
- **Switch to a Personal Account:** Ensure you are logged out of the school account and logged into a personal `@gmail.com` account before clicking the meeting link. This could be a parent/guardian or students, and we can add multiple to the recurring google meeting if it makes it easier on your end.
- **Use an Incognito/Private Window:** Open an Incognito (Chrome) or Private (Safari/Edge) browsing window and paste the meeting link into the address bar. This bypasses the school login entirely and allows you to enter your name to "Ask to Join" as a guest.
- **Create a Dedicated Chrome Profile:** Set up a separate Chrome browser profile specifically for tutoring. Log into this profile with a personal Google account so school restrictions never interfere with our sessions.

### Camera & Microphone Troubleshooting
**1. Grant Browser Permissions**
When joining a Google Meet for the first time, your browser will prompt you to allow access to the camera and microphone. If this prompt was missed or blocked:
- Look at the address bar at the top of your web browser.
- Click the **Padlock icon** (or the **Tune icon** with two circles) located immediately to the left of the website address.
- Toggle the switches for **Camera** and **Microphone** to the **ON** position.
- Refresh the webpage to apply the changes.
**2. Check Google Meet's Internal Settings**
If permissions are granted but the issue persists, Google Meet might be trying to pull audio or video from the wrong source.
- Inside the Google Meet call, click the **three vertical dots** (More options) at the bottom of the screen.
- Click the **Settings** (gear) icon.
- Under the **Audio** tab, ensure your desired microphone and speakers are selected from the dropdown menus. You can click "Test" to check the speaker volume.
- Under the **Video** tab, ensure the correct camera is selected. You should see a live preview.
**3. Check Windows/Mac System Privacy Settings**
Sometimes the computer's operating system blocks the web browser from using the hardware, even if the browser has permission.
- **For Windows:** Go to **Start > Settings > Privacy & security**. Check both the **Camera** and **Microphone** sections. Ensure "Let apps access your camera/microphone" is toggled **On**, and verify that your specific web browser (e.g., Google Chrome) is allowed in the list below.
- **For Mac:** Go to the **Apple Menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security**. Click on **Camera** and ensure the switch next to your web browser is turned **On**. Repeat this exact process for the **Microphone** menu. You may need to restart your browser for the changes to take effect.
**4. Close Conflicting Applications**
Other applications like Zoom, Skype, or Discord might be actively using the camera or microphone in the background. Close any other video conferencing or audio software completely, then refresh your Google Meet page.

### Joining from an iPad or Android Tablet
If you are using a tablet, the process for resolving account restrictions and hardware permissions is slightly different.
**If restricted message occurs in the Mobile App**
If you are using the Google Meet app on a tablet and receive the safety settings error, you may be logged into a school account on the app.
1. Open the **Google Meet app**.
2. Tap the **Profile picture** in the top right corner of the screen.
3. Select **Add another account** (or select a personal account if one is already listed).
4. Log in with a personal `@gmail.com` address. Once switched, tap the meeting link again.
**Fixing Camera & Microphone Permissions on iPad (iOS)**
If we cannot see or hear each other on an iPad:
1. Open the iPad's **Settings** app.
2. Go to **Privacy & Security** > **Camera**.
3. Make sure the toggle is turned on for your web browser (like Safari or Chrome) or the Google Meet app.
4. Go back to **Privacy & Security**, select **Microphone**, and ensure the switch for your browser or the Meet app is turned on.
**Fixing Camera & Microphone Permissions on Android Tablets**
If we cannot see or hear each other on an Android tablet:
1. Open **Settings** on your tablet.
2. Tap **Apps** and select your web browser (like **Chrome**) or the **Google Meet** app.
3. Go to **Permissions** > **Camera**.
4. Select **Allow only while using the app**. Repeat this exact process for the **Microphone** permission.
